In three weeks time I am taking part in the Original Mountain Marathon, OMM for short. It is a team orienteering marathon over two days, carrying all the equipment required to be self sufficient. So for the last week or two I have been brushing up on my map reading skills. This is going to be quite a challenge, but one I am looking forward to. it is a hilly course with 2500m + ascent and the total distance covered depends on how we plot our route.
I went up Beinn a Clachan today which is a short but steep climb. Had to stop short of the summit, at 500m to make sure I was back in time for school pick up. It has been a beautiful Autumn so far, which I am am making the most of. However I could do with some bad weather to practice in too. lucky for me and my fellow OMM partner Jess we have the help of my Uncle, who is a member of the Torridon Mountain Rescue and an experienced mountain goat. He has suggested we have a bit of night navigation training, have an OMM-inous feeling about this!!
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
